About 424

424 Studios is a collaboration between three DIY pedal junkies that have been friends for the last several years. We've been working together on various projects since 2008 and decided it was time to try our hand at the small-scale production of guitar effects pedals. Our mission is to have fun while making world-class pedals that guitar and bass players will use and enjoy and be inspired by. The name "424 Studios" came from the fact that all three of us owned and lovingly used a Tascam 424 Portastudio back in the mid 1990s.

Short Runs
The idea of going with shorter runs of 5-15 pedals is predicated primarily on a simple reality: building the same pedal over and over again is really boring. We aren't robots, and variety is the spice of life. As a secondary motivation, short runs also allow for the exploration of very "niche" pedals with extraordinarily limited demand (read: weird stuff that only 5 or 6 people in the world would want). We design, develop, and build a run of a given pedal and then we move on to something else.

Focus on Quality
The pedals we build are both original circuits and classic clones, and we do all of our own PCB design, circuit testing, and pedal manufacturing. Each product is a collaborative effort, and we push each other to keep the build quality as high as it can possibly be. Where feasible, we source components and hardware from local manufacturers. All pedals are thoroughly tested before shipping.

Shenanigan-Free Boutique Experience
It sounds silly to have to say this kind of thing, but it is our policy only to sell pedals that actually exist. We don't do wait lists, deposits, down-payments, or any of that kind of stuff. If it isn't already built and ready to ship, we won't sell it. Period. It is our founding principle to provide our customers with a 100% shenanigan-free experience.
